“Phoenix” programme was founded in Brakiovci village, Godech municipality, in 2001 through the support of Soroptimist International, United Dutch Foundations and Department for International Development (DFID) at UK Embassy, Bulgaria. A year later, in 2002, a re-socialization programme was established in Sofia following a work visit in KETEA, Greece (Therapeutic community Itaka, Thessaloniki).
In 2002 TC “Phoenix” was accepted a member of the Association of Therapeutic Communities (ATC), UK. In 2003 the TC became a full member of the European Federation of Therapeutic Communities (EFTC).
Since 2003 TC “Phoenix” has been actively involved in “Community of Communities” – a standards-based quality improvement international network, a project of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ in partnership with the ATC, EFTC, Charterhouse Group (ChG), the Planned Environment Therapy Trust (PETT), and the Australian Therapeutic Communities Association (ATCA).
